Cats: Information about Your Choices

 

Description of Surgery

Cat Neuter

A cat neuter is the sterilization of a MALE cat by castration and pain medicine. This surgery is performed under general asthenia by a veterinarian.

Your pet will also receive an injection of Ketoprophen which is a pain medicine.

 

 

Kitten Spay

A kitten spay is the sterilization of a FEMALE cat by removing ovaries, fallopian tubes and part of the uterus and pain medicine. This surgery is performed under general asthenia by a veterinarian. Your pet will also receive an injection of Ketoprophen which is a pain medicine.

Kittens must weigh between 2 and 4 pounds. If your kitten weighs less than 2 pounds we postpone surgery and if your kitten weighs more than 4 pounds it is a cat.

 

 

Cat Spay

Vaccinations

Cat 3 Way Vaccination

The Cat 3 Way is the standard cat vaccination usually abbreviated FVRCP. This vaccine is an aid to the prevention of 4 of the most common cat diseases and all cats should receive this vaccination.

In case you are interested the FVR is for feline rhinotracheitis which is an upper respiratory virus similar to a cold in humans. The C is for calicivirus which is another cold like virus. The P is for panleukemia which is better known as distemper virus.

 

 

Cat Vaccination Package

The package includes the vaccinations most requested for cats. The Cat 3 Way (FVRCP) and Feline Leukemia.

 

 

Feline Leukemia

Feline Leukemia is a leading cause of cancer, blood disorders and immune deficiency. Feline Leukemia is fatal 40% of the time, 40% recover and 30% go into a carrier state where they don't die but spread the disease.

 

 

Rabies

The first time your pet is vaccinated, the rabies vaccination is valid for one year. Subsequent vaccinations are valid for either one or three years.  

Rabies is a fatal disease which can also infect humans.

 

 

 

Tests

Fecal Test

The fecal test examines your pet's elimination for signs of parasites. A technician dissolves the sample in a salt solution, centrifuges the sample and examines the material under a microscope. If your pet suffers from parasites, evidence should be visible in the sample.

 

 

Feline Leukemia Test

This is a test for feline Leukemia.

Feline Leukemia is a leading cause of cancer, blood disorders and immune deficiency. Feline Leukemia is fatal.

 

 

 

Parasite Control

Revolution

Revolution is an aid to the prevention of heartworms, fleas and other harmful parasites. You may purchase up to 6 doses at the time of your surgery. We will administer the first dose purchased.
