4 Pets Clinic is committed to reducing the barriers to low cost, high quality spay & neuter services so we offer a low cost mobile program to make spay & neuter a reasonable option for most people. We come to designated places hopefully close to you, pickup your cats and dogs to get them fixed and return your pets to the pickup location. We use licensed veterinarians, who use competent staffs and good procedures to get the pets fixed. To find where we will be next, click on  Register.

How do I qualify for services?

Our program is open to all people who own or care about cats and dogs. You don't have to prove that you qualify for services. While we only go to certain areas, anyone may register and bring a pet to our clinic. We accept stray and feral cats. Many people bring stray cats to us to prevent problems in the neighborhood.

             Do you accept feral cats?

                        We accept feral cats in a humane trap for spay or neuter but do not accept cats for adoption. There is more information about feral cats below.

Can I get vaccinations without spay or neuter surgery?

            We offer a vaccination clinic twice a month.

Do you offer any other services?

            All the services we offer are listed on the website registration form. We are not a full service veterinary hospital, we are a low cost spay & neuter service. We want you to have one good visit with us but to take your pet to a full service veterinarian for any additional services you may require.

Who do I call if there is a problem after surgery?

            When we return your pet to you, we will give you follow-up care instructions and two contact phone numbers. If there are problems, call us and we will take care problems directly related to our services.

Will my pet get pain medicine?

                    All  pets receive pain medicine at no extra charge.

When should we fix our pets?

How old must my cat or dog be before surgery?

          Eight weeks and two pounds.

I thought that you should wait until the cat or dog was 6 months old?

          That was true years ago. Now we are fortunate to have anesthesia drugs that are safe for young animals. This is good because cats can be pregnant by 6 months.

Is it better to wait until my pet has had one litter?

          No, pets that have never had a litter are less likely to get cancer than those that had even one litter.

I want my pet to feel like a man, won’t fixing ruin his manhood?

          Your pet is a pet. He won’t know he is neutered and he can still have sex. And you will miss-out on attempting to keep your pet confined, veterinary bills to fix cat fight wounds and his marking his territory. (It may be your house, but it is his territory and nature tells mature males to mark it.)

Reproduction Questions

When can cats and dogs start going into heat?

          At 5 to 6 months.

How many kittens does a cat have?

          Cats can have up to 3 litters per year. Cat litters are generally 4 to 8 kittens.

My pet is pregnant. Can she still be spayed?

          Yes she can be spayed. The decision to spay a pregnant cat is the owners, not ours. It is better to spay a cat before she is pregnant because the surgery is riskier on pregnant cats. You should know that spaying a pregnant cat terminates the pregnancy. 

How long are cats and dogs pregnant?

          Just as with people it varies, but cats and dogs are usually pregnant for between 60 and 65 days.

Feral Cats

Why do I have to bring feral cats in a cat trap?

          Feral cats are wild animals. The best way to protect you, the cats and everyone else involved is to keep the cat in a trap from the time you catch it until you release it.

How should I trap feral cats?

          4 days before surgery, take the food away from the whole colony. 3 days before surgery, setout the traps with food and a water bowl. Without being observed, keep checking the traps until one of the cats is trapped, then cover the trap and move it to a safe location. Give the cat food and water in the trap. Keep the cats in a safe, quiet place and keep the traps covered.

That seems cruel?

          These are wild cats not people. Cats will feel safer and be happier in a covered trap than if exposed which will make them feel vulnerable.

Tattoos

Why do you tattoo female cats?

          We tattoo pets for three reasons. First, if your pet becomes lost and somehow end up in a shelter that cannot place all the healthy pets who arrive, a spay & neuter tattoo greatly increases the chance that your pet will be placed for adoption. We know that you would do what you can to get your pet back but less than 1/5 th of stray pets find their way back to owners. Second, pets cannot tell the veterinarian that they have been fixed. A tattoo prevents many pets from undergoing surgery for a second time.

Where do you tattoo female cats?

            Female cats receive about a 1/4 inch tattoo on the belly.

Does this hurt?

            No, your pet will be tattooed while under general anesthesia.

Will this be ugly?

            Absolutely not, once the hair grows back, you probably won't even notice the tatto.
